There are over 100 goods wagons on the Severn Valley Railway.

The Wagon Department is responsible for the restoration and maintenance of about half of these, with the rest being owned or adopted by other departments, such as ballast wagons used by the Permanent Way, or covered vans used as stores by various other groups.

At present, there are about 15 wagons and two brake vans restored and serviceable for use in the demonstration goods train at galas or for photo charters.

Originally part of the Carriage & Wagon Department, Bewdley Wagon Repairs became a separate department in 1982.

Most work is carried out inside the goods shed.

GWR 80982 Signal Department Van is used as the Wagon Department's mess van.

Some work is carried out outside.
